  • The New York Times Music Review: Fall Into Me

    Saturday January, 12th 2013

Men rarely get the better of the country singer and songwriter Katie Armiger on her fourth studio album, “Fall Into Me” (Cold River). It has a good share of single-and-surviving songs, from the sarcastic “He’s Gonna Change” — no, he’s not — to the defiant “Better in a Black Dress,” where the singer spurns a wedding gown in favor of party clothes, to “Cardboard Boxes,” which wonders, “How did we get so out of love?,” to the kiss-off of “So Long”: “Take the sugarcoating off the facts/Take two steps forward, don’t look back.” Her music is on the less processed, country-rock side of modern Nashville, relying on chugging guitars and foot-stamping beats yet unafraid of an occasional detour. The album has a happy ending, where she finds the lover who makes her feel “Safe.” But what lingers are the skirmishes along the way.
